Recently, I shared my journey from a person who has never camped before to a backpacker. I’ve also shared some tips on how you can prepare for your own backpacking trips (see slides).
We visited Reno in the middle of our trip in Lake Tahoe area. Reno is ~50 miles from Tahoe City.
It was a really short trip, and not exactly a full-blown backpacking trip, but we actually packed a lot of things in it — driving, hiking, camping, Reno, Tahoe City — we were satisfied.
We were thrilled to snatch 2-day Sky Campground reservations at Point Reyes National Seashore and enjoyed the beautiful Tomales Point Trail and coast.
Our first car camping experience.
So happy — reservation dates were right after Memorial Day, people were going back to work, but we were going backpacking!
The first Saturday of June is National Trails Day in the U.S. This was established by the American Hiking Society (AHS). On this day, thousands of thousands of people volunteer to maintain and project hiking trails.
Very excited to kick off our journey in backpacking officially with Angel Island State Park!
A small first step to an ambitious goal.
So far, I’ve experienced the following airline traveling within the United States: Delta, United Airlines, Island Air (commuter flight in Hawaii) and today Virgin America. It’s hard to say which one I prefer the most.
